Industrial Systems Design and Engineering

Syska Hennessy has extensive experience in designing and engineering systems at large-scale industrial properties. These properties constitute one of the strongest asset classes in today’s real estate market.

Over the decades, we have consulted and worked on new facilities, the maintenance of existing facilities, upgrades, and conversions. Our completed projects include warehouses, car dealerships, clean rooms, and centers for battery recycling, steam processing, and food processing.  The types of projects vary, but our goal is the same for all – to design systems that are functional, flexible, and sustainable.

We recently served as the mechanical, electrical, plumbing engineer for Palomar College’s 28,000-square-foot O&M complex, named ENR’s Best Green Project for 2018.  The complex, which meets LEED Platinum and net-zero energy standards, features a hybrid, mixed-mode HVAC system with passive and active mechanical components, high-efficiency heating and cooling, natural ventilation, photovoltaics, and daylighting.  Thanks to this project, Palomar will soon become the first community college in the world to receive Living Building Petal certification.

Another recent project was the renovation and adaptive reuse of a 500,000-square-foot historic building to accommodate light industrial uses.  As consulting engineer/the engineer of record, the team designed new MEP, BMS, fire alarm, and emergency power systems while incorporating several sustainable elements into the infrastructure. These encompassed demand-controlled ventilation, energy recovery, and daylight-responsive lighting controls, among others.
