Project Overview
Manhattan College Horan Hall, Bronx, New York
The extensive modernization and renovation of Horan Hall included an update and modernize the 170,000 sf building, while providing students with the option of suite-style housing. Syska Hennessy was appointed by Manhattan College as part of a team to provide mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection engineering services for this full modernization, which includes all communal areas, dormitories and adjoining bathrooms, as well as converting bathtubs to contemporary walk-in shower facilities.
Horan Hall is a Halls of Residence facility located on Manhattan College’s Riverdale campus. It is Manhattan College’s largest Hall of Residence, and is home to approximately 700 students accommodated over 11 floors. Horan Hall was originally constructed in 1989 and comprises dormitory rooms with adjoining bathrooms together with a communal lounge, kitchen/dining area and laundry room on each floor.
As part of the renovation project, approximately a third of the accommodation was converted to stylish one-, two-, and three-bedroom suites, complete with their own new kitchenette facilities and dining/living room areas. This suite-style housing offers students more independence and privacy than traditional halls.
