Syska was retained to provide vertical transportation design solutions for an exciting new sustainable terminal at the Salt Lake City International Airport.

The new terminal is being designed to meet Salt Lake City’s needs for decades to come and to be adaptable to the evolving aviation industry. The new $1.8 billion three-story contemporary terminal and linear concourse, when complete, will consist of 72 gates and cover six city blocks, a new parking facility, with the new terminal and half of the concourse to be completed by 2020 and the remaining by summer 2023.

The vertical transportation systems are being designed to meet the Airports key priorities, namely: sustainable and highly energy efficient, durable and easy to maintain and service.

We are meeting these priorities by using Machine Room Less elevators, with regenerative drive systems, and providing moving walks and escalators with controls to automatically reduce speed and energy consumption during periods of non-use. Our design incorporates 56 elevators, 26 moving walks and 19 escalators.

These new systems will provide passengers with state-of-the-art transportation that is easier, safer and quicker to navigate Terminal.
