Confidential Laboratory Client, Medical Laboratory – Campus Infrastructure and Critical Upgrades, San Juan Capistrano, CA

Add to Brochure

Syska provided the master plan and design upgrades, permitting and construction administration which included the chiller plant expansion, controls upgrades, new 100% fresh air handling systems with humidification to serve the laboratories and the new power upgrades.

The power upgrade project consists of upgrading the critical generators for the campus central plant and the 24/7 laboratory building. The laboratory serves the critical medical testing needs for the client and cannot have any downtime, this is a round the clock operations facility which must remain effectively active at all times to avoid any costly test result losses. One generator is 2 MW and the other is 1.5 MW. The project scope requires us to seamlessly relocate the existing 1.5 MW generator serving the central plant and to reuse this generator to service an existing laboratory building and to provide a new 2 MW generator to back up the entire central plant which was expanded and upgraded by the Syska team under a separate project.

We are providing temporary power during cut-over of the emergency and standby power systems to minimize any downtime and to eliminate any unforeseen impact to operations.

We are the prime consultant and executive electrical engineer for the project. We have advised the owner and hired the civil and structural engineers including engaging a team to develop a new fire master plan for the site for filing and approval with the Orange County Fire Department. We are also coordinated permitting for AQMD with the contractors.
