Cleveland Clinic—ranked as the #2 best hospital in the U.S. by U.S. News & World Report—is one of the largest employers in the state of Ohio, and at the forefront of mission critical applications in the healthcare industry.
The clinic selected Syska Hennessy Group to design a new primary facility to replace the existing data center facilities. This is a very energy-efficient design using conventional equipment. The use of existing technology in the best possible way provided our client with innovative solutions.
Syska designed the new data center to Uptime Institute Tier III standards (concurrent maintainability with no single points of failure). The data center was designed to provide a load density of 150 W/sf with a Day-One critical power requirement of 3.0 MW. Power is provided by a clinic-owned, medium-voltage substation built by the local utility. The programming requirements for the near term required one 25,000-sf module of raised floor area to support the infrastructure and office area of approximately 10,000 sf. The design also allowed for an additional 25,000 sf of raised floor to be constructed at a later date.
