Sidney & Lois Eskenazi Hospital and Eskenazi Health Campus, Indianapolis, IN

Add to Brochure

Eskenazi Health is Indiana’s largest public healthcare system; its main facility, located on the Indiana University – Purdue University Indianapolis campus, needed consolidation and improvement to ensure more efficient operation and enhanced service offerings. Replacing the nearby Wishard Hospital, this new 37-acre campus includes the 315-bed Sidney & Lois Eskenazi Hospital, 275-room ambulatory care clinic, faculty office building, 2,700-car parking structure, and central utility plant.

Syska served as executive engineers for the sprawling Eskenazi Health Campus and design engineers for the core engineering systems of the main hospital. Syska also provided technology design consulting for clinical, IT, and facilities systems, and provided full physical security design across the campus.

Our work across the campus included displacement ventilation using CFD analysis, daylighting studies and extensive energy modeling. During schematic design, Syska worked with the owner, architect and various subconsultants to develop building information modeling (BIM) incorporating multiple buildings and the central plant. For the ambulatory care clinic, Syska worked closely with local design engineers BSA LifeStructures who guided the schematic design and provided energy modeling expertise.

The new campus can treat 20% more patients in 33% less space than the former facility, and is one of the largest LEED Gold healthcare campuses in the world.
