John Rimbey, PE, RCDD, LEED AP
Associate Partner
John Rimbey has over 22 years of experience in designing electrical systems as well as in project management of mission critical facilities such as data centers and trading floors for telecommunications, commercial, financial, industrial, educational, retail and healthcare institutions. He is actively involved with various mission critical facility clients to increase reliability and integrate new technology within their businesses.
In 2009, after 15 years of engineering throughout the Pacific Northwest, John left his own business in Boise, Idaho, for Richmond, Virginia. In Richmond, he quickly learned the unique requirements of the local jurisdictions and introduced concepts and strategies learned out west.
He came to Syska Hennessy Group in 2013 and helped transition the Richmond office from a single-market, single-client office to a multi-market, multi-client branch. The Richmond office now serves multiple clients and engineering markets in critical facilities, financial, healthcare, higher education and industrial. Bringing the “heavy-lifting” engineering expertise that Syska is known for to these other markets has been very well received by the local architects and owners in central Virginia.
John enjoys the wide diversity of disciplines within electrical engineering and has mastered the design of fire alarm, lighting, power generation and telecommunications systems. His favorite projects are multifaceted and complex designs that require close coordination with other trades and end users. John takes great satisfaction in seeing the end-user’s dream visualized with a new building or facility design that exceeds their expectations.
Recent technological developments throughout the industry have provided so many new tools for Syska’s clients to implement safer, more flexible and more energy-efficient designs. John’s passion is to bring these new ideas to each project in a way that will bring the most benefit to the end user.
John is active with his family and his children’s sports teams. He and his wife are foster parents for the city of Richmond. Throughout the last three years, they have assisted over ten different families in transition by providing a safe home for their young children until the parents were able to get back on their feet.
