This week is the beginning of Engineers Week, which, as you can well imagine, is important to all of us at Syska Hennessy.
Founded by National Society of Professional Engineers in 1951, Engineers Week is dedicated to ensuring a diverse and well-educated future engineering workforce by increasing understanding of and interest in technology careers. This is a mission that Syska fully endorses. We love what we do, and we want to ensure a promising future for our often-overlooked but highly rewarding profession.
The work that engineers do might not seem glamorous to some people at first, but in fact it is exciting and extremely gratifying. It’s also absolutely necessary for economic and social progress. In the realm of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) engineering, which is Syska’s specialty, we play a behind-the-scenes role in making the places where you live and work comfortable, healthy, safe, efficient, and sustainable. And we use groundbreaking technologies in the process. The results are dozens of skyscrapers, medical facilities, airports, historic landmarks, data centers, and media installations around the world. We even helped develop the world’s first 3D-printed office building – Talk about exciting!
To this end, Syska strives to support the mission of Engineers Week all year long. For example, we offer an Engineer Development Training (EDT) program that is designed to accelerate the careers of recent college graduates. Through this one -year program, all entry-level engineers receive cross-training in MEP, energy modeling, LEED, and sustainability so that they become well-rounded. Thanks to the success of efforts like this one, we have been able to sustain Syska’s growth through nine decades.
As Syska continues to expand, we look forward to introducing more young people to the world of engineering and preparing them to shape the world to come. Please join us in celebrating Engineers Week!
