Designing the First School for an Impoverished Mexican Community
Last month, Syska volunteers Brian Blicher, PE (Syska, Washington, DC) and Brian Lifvergren, LEED AP (Syska, New York) flew to Nuevo Leon, Mexico, to support KaTO’s design studio in designing and building social projects for impoverished communities worldwide.
Acting as student mentors, our Brian2 team traveled with the multi-disciplinary team to review the site and work on a design proposal for the first school in the community. It was a busy three days of studying local culture and architectural traditions, visiting the project site, and learning about the building techniques used in that region of Mexico. When this project is complete, we will deliver a design for schools serving a large community for years to come.
