CCDC Harbor Drive Pedestrian Bridge
San Diego, CA
Harbor Drive Pedestrian Bridge is the final piece in the Park-to-Bay link project, providing an invaluable connection between San Diego's downtown and bayfront areas. The project, adjacent to Petco Park, will provide safe access to the bayfront and additional parking in the 2000-space Port of San Diego garage.
The self-anchored suspension bridge spans 500 feet and sits 25 feet above Harbor Drive. Unlike most bridges of this type, the bridge features suspension cables on one side of the deck, with the single 130 foot centered angled pylon spanning over and positioned opposite. The lighting design for the Harbor Drive bridge highlights the suspension cables themselves, from below, to create a glowing curtain of light across Harbor Drive. Conventional metal halide lights, located at the base of the cables, will illuminate the catenary cables above. The design also incorporates LED under tread lighting for the stairs. The bridge will be a prominent gateway to San Diego's downtown, both day and night.
