Phoenix Convention Center Expansion
The Phoenix Convention Center, one of the top 20 convention venues in the United States, offers more than 900,000 sf of meeting and event space and more than two million square feet in total area. Syska Hennessy Group was selected to provide MEP services to expand the existing 580,000 sf convention center. The expansion was a cooperative effort between the City of Phoenix and the State of Arizona to meet the growing demands of a vibrant trade show and special event market.
Syska collaborated with HOK Venue Architects and Hunt Construction a team with the skills to implement a turnkey design on a fast-track basis. The goal was to design a cost-efficient, functional and highly competitive facility capable of maximizing revenue opportunities.
The convention center includes sustainable features such as solar panels and gardens nourished with water harvested from the air conditioning systems waste condensate. To build upon the local climate, the design incorporates a series of outdoor meeting rooms that can be enjoyed nine months of the year. Additionally, the Centers West Building has been awarded LEED® Silver certification by the US Green Building Council.
