Electronic Arts lobby
With plans to more than double it current workforce, Electronic Arts was in
need of a new facility that would allow them to relocate by the end of 2003
and allow for a planned expansion by 2005. Syska Hennessy Group was selected
by Electronic Arts, the world's leading interactive entertainment software
company to assist them in the relocation of their Corporate Office space to
Playa Del Rey, California. The company’s new space in Playa Vista consists
of two buildings totalling over 240,000 square feet, and is known as “Water’s
Edge.” This space provided EA the opportunity to build a cutting edge
studio that combines its current team of 300 artists, engineers, testers, and
support staff from Bel Air and Redwood City, California. The unique characteristics
of the Playa Vista area also allows EA to offer its employees coutless amenities
such as beach volleyball courts, athletic fields, a fitness center, and acces
to a wildlife preserve and beachfront areas.

Our team provided building system engineering and consulting services spanning
three phases of the project. The core/shell design of the building was previously
awarded a Sustainable Design award, and the Syska team continued to work with
the client and the rest of the design team in order to incorporate these same
design elements throughout the rest of the facility. All of these ground breaking
strategies have been combined to create a state of the art facility for the
client in an area that will provide for optimum productivity of its employees.
Steve Soboroff, who leads the development of the area said, “With EA
building the first new studio in Los Angeles since the 1930s, and locating
it within Playa Vista, the vision of creating a dynamic place where people
can live, work, and play is quickly becoming a reality.”
