Syska Hennessy Group was selected as part of the team to address
the feasibility of expanding Reser Stadium, a NCAA Division 1 Stadium.
The stadium, home of ‘Beaver Nation’ lacked the fan
club environments found in newer stadiums and did not have enough
seats to accommodate the demand of the student population and surrounding
community. Our study explored the options of adding a new East
side to the Stadium which would include a new student seating section,
club seats, suites, modern concessions and restroom facilities,
a stadium club and founders club.
Based on the results of our study our team was given the notice
to proceed with the design of the expansion in 2002. Selected to
offer integrated services for the project our team provided building
system design along with architectural lighting design services
for the project. Our scope of services included the addition of
4,000 seats, 3,600 club seats and 20 climate-controlled open-air
suites. Each suite contains plush theater seating, comfort furnishings,
and two television sets for replays and pre-game entertainment.
Unique MEP design elements for the project included the design
of the suites with operable windows tied to HVAC operations. In
addition the MEP systems for each suite were designed within the
front rail of each suite to allow for interchangeable electrical
outlets.
In addition to general seating, the design of the new club lounge
is considered one of the finest collegiate stadium private clubs
in the country. A private elevator will take patrons to the club
level, where a concierge will greet them and direct them to the
lounge. In the spacious club lounge, patrons will have the opportunity
to enjoy upscale dining and beverage services or traditional stadium
cuisine. This expansive club lounge is designed with climate-control
systems.

Lighting Design Components
Architectural lighting design services were provided for the field,
main concourse, upper concourse, stadium club and founders lounges.
The field lighting included in the reuse and addition of lighting
components that were designed within both NCAA 1 and the City
of Corvallis guidelines for Collegiate Football as well as with
louvers that directed light onto the field. The lighting for
the concessions and the main concourse space also took into account
strict energy conservation codes that exceeded standards.
Lighting design services were also provided for both the Club
Lounge and Founders Lounge. The Club Lounge was designed to be
the largest multi-function space in the City of Corvallis to allow
for use on both game and non-game days. Theatrical fixtures, as
well as track fixtures and dimming control systems were provided
for the lounge. A custom design light sculpture in the shape of
a football is also planned for the space. The Founders Lounge designed
for the President of the University and other high ranking people
within the community was designed with a sports lodge motif with
lighting fixtures that followed the OSU theme as well as custom
bar fixtures and energy efficient dimming control systems.
