The Carolinas have experienced explosive growth over the past two decades, resulting in a population of over 15 million people. Many Fortune 500 companies are headquartered here or have relocated their operations to our region’s major cities. Recognizing the potential of the Carolinas, Syska Hennessy Group opened up a Charlotte office in 2003, initially in part to support a long-standing client.
Since opening our doors, Syska has had the pleasure of providing engineering consulting and design services to several of the most recognizable and industry-leading businesses in the world, including Duke Energy, Wells Fargo, BB&T, Novant Health, New Hanover Regional Medical Center and SAS Institute. Syska’s Charlotte office also supports many national and international architectural firms to create world-class cities in our region.
Growing from an office of one to a staff of nearly 30 professionals, Syska continues to focus on our most important asset: our team members! Our team comprises high-performing engineers, commissioning agents and professional staff who relentlessly pursue engineering excellence and provide the highest level of customer service. Our team has more than 10 licensed professional engineers (PEs) and holds many other professional certifications, including registered communications distribution designer (RCDD), certified in plumbing design (CPD) and LEED AP. Thought leaders, including our chief HVAC engineer, Vali Sorell, and our global commissioning leader, Chris Walsh, both reside in our Charlotte office.
Our Charlotte team has provided engineering services for a majority of the high rises inside the Interstate 277 belt loop as well as many other facilities in the greater Charlotte area. One of the most exciting aspects of Charlotte’s growth has been the region’s commitment to sustainability. We provide solutions that reduce energy consumption and enhance people’s experience inside the built environment. To date, Syska Charlotte has been involved with several important LEED-certified projects, including a confidential financial client’s server restack in their LEED Gold headquarters, SAS Building D LEED Gold data center, and Tyron Place, a new Class AAA office tower in Charlotte that is scheduled to pursue LEED as well.
After listening to our clients, Syska opened a Raleigh office in January 2015. After working for many years in the Triangle Area from our Charlotte office, our clients became louder and louder in their requests to us to have a presence in the Raleigh/Durham area—and we were glad we listened. Our Raleigh office is experiencing success in multiple markets, including critical facilities, healthcare, higher education and life sciences, drawing upon support from Syska Charlotte and our global network.
Syska Charlotte’s presence in the community is an integral part of our DNA. We recently worked with Blessings in a Backpack, providing food for homeless children at a local school and contributing to Red Nose Day to help end hunger. We contributed to Earth Day, carefully selecting the Trees Charlotte organization, which is dedicated to conserving and expanding the tree canopy through planting, restoration and education.
