Syska Awarded the Bags First FIS Facility at San Diego International Airport
Syska Hennessy Group awarded the contract to support the significant expansion of the San Diego International Airport international arrivals facility, by the project by design/build team, which includes Turner/PCL JV and Gensler (architect).
Syska will provide MEP engineering, architectural lighting design, vertical transportation, IT systems peer review and A/V services for an expansion to support San Diego International Airport’s planned growth of its international passengers, encompassing:
- International arrivals facility
- Relocating and reconnecting the existing Federal Inspection Services (FIS)
- Customs and Border Protection facility
- New technology hall
- 47,000 sf of new construction and 74,000 sf of remodel space
This is an exciting project for Syska’s San Diego office and aviation sector because it will be the first airport with the ‘Bags First,’ to enable passengers to retrieve their bags prior to FIS processing in order to move through customs faster. SDIA will be a pilot for this concept for other airports and their FIS facilities in the future.
